Tapered Optimist Mainsheet – High-Performance Double Taper Line

Designed specifically for the Optimist dinghy, this tapered mainsheet delivers excellent handling, reduced friction, and reliable grip where young sailors need it most.

Manufactured from premium Robline materials, the rope combines a Dyneema® core with a polyamide/polyester (PA/PES) cover to deliver very low stretch, high load capacity, and outstanding abrasion resistance. The result is a durable, race-ready mainsheet that performs consistently in all conditions.

This double-tapered Optimist mainsheet features a thicker central section for improved grip in the sailor’s hands, with thinner tapered ends to minimise friction and weight. The reduced diameter at the ends allows the line to run smoothly through blocks and sheaves, improving responsiveness and control.

Please note: This mainsheet is asymmetrical, with one end being a different length taper than the other. This has been optimised for running through the mainsheet blocks, whilst the other end reduces overall weight in the boat. 

This layout optimises performance exactly where it matters on an Optimist setup.
